Hi, I'm Debbie Russell a member of Tulsa Business Leaders for at least 10 years. They are a great bunch and a VERY good business group. I would feel comfortable refering anyone of them. I have been a Mortgage Loan Officer at Associated Mortgage Corporation for the past 8 years and 14 at another company before AMC. I am also current Board President of Y-ME National Breast Cancer NE Oklahoma Affiliate.

Back to the mortgage industry, things have been pretty easy to get a loan for anyone with any kind of credit, but the industry now is under so much scrutiny with the foreclosures and deliquencies that we have already been getting updates for tighter underwriting guidelines, I'll keep you posted. Gotta go now, will check back later.

Mike on TV

Mike Ransom (my husband) was interviewed on OETA's "Tulsa Times" program today. You can watch it on Google Video.

Homestead Info & Recipe for Valentine Cookies

Homestead, TIME TO FILE?

Oklahoma law allows the owner(s) of residential real estate property to file for and receive a Homestead Exemption on their property if: (1) they were the owners of record on January 1 and (2) are living in the property. In addition to receiving a $1000.00 reduction in the assessed value of the property and tax savings of $85-$135 per year, filing the Homestead Exemption also establishes a legal record of Homestead on a residence.

If you would like to know if you currently have Homestead Exemption on your home or how to file for the Exemption, contact me at Gaye@GayeBrown.com . You have until March 15th to file for the homestead exemption for 2007. If you have previously filed for the Homestead Exemption on your current residence, you do NOT need to file again.

Chocolaty Valentine's Cookies

1/2 c Milk
1/4 lb Butter
6 tblsp Unsweetened cocoa
1 2/3 c Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla extract
3 c Rolled oats

Put the milk and butter in the saucepan over medium heat. Add cocoa and sugar; stir well. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Beat in vanilla extract and rolled oats. Blend well. Spoon onto cookie sheet. Let cool until hardened. These cookies, when cooled, resemble fudge; very chewy.

Blog basics

Hi, this is Mike Ransom, writing under Gaye's ID. I thought I would talk a little about this blog.

It is currently set up so that only club members can post or add comments. To do either, you will need to sign up with Blogger.com (now owned by Google) using the email address of yours that is on Gaye's list.

You will be able to edit your own posts and and add pictures and links to them if you wish.

The blog could be a way to notify the other members of coming events, talk about your businesses, share recipes, or anything else you can think of.

One advantage of this format is that everyone in the group can easily add new content to the site. It also has the advantage of being a way for members to communicate with each other.

Readers can get a better idea of what your businesses are about, and get to know the people behind the business.

If your business listing or URL on the right sidebar needs updating, just email the update to Gaye, then I (or whoever you choose to be the admin) will take care of it.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Gaye, or me at mike@tulsaTVmemories.com.

I included a clickable link in the above paragraph using the little "chain" button on the Edit screen. I added an image below.

Feel free to try it out. You can't break it, and you can edit your post if you make a typo.

Welcome!

As a long-time (about 9 years) member of Tulsa Business Leaders, it pleases me to be the first blogger at this site!

Having tried two other networking groups before joining TBL, it is easy to list the reasons I have stayed with this fine organization for quite a while:

1. Lunchtime Meetings occur only twice per month (1st and 3rd Wednesdays.) Many groups require weekly attendance and that is just too timely a commitment for me.

2. The group is small enough (currently 14 members, but we'd like around 20) that it is easy to know everyone on a first-name basis.

3. Four of the members have been with the group even longer than I! Longevity of membership is generally a good indicator that people are happy with the business they are receiving, and comfortable giving leads to fellow members.

4. All the members are (and past ones were) highly professional, honest, and ethical. It is so easy to refer people to my fellow members as I know the referred person will receive prompt and excellent service.

5. Ours is a very community-service oriented club. We give annually to many worthwhile endeavors and charities. Past organizations we have supported include John 3:16 Mission, YMe (breast cancer) Foundation, Laura Dester Home, TCC Scholarship Fund, and others I'm no doubt overlooking.

6. Quarterly evening get-togethers for just fun and food are always enjoyable!

Count me as a firm believer in Tulsa Business Leaders!
